As ever, there was no shortage of amazing new products on display over the course of the four days at CES 2014. BMW arrived in Vegas armed with their new self-driving car capable of drifting around bends and slaloming through cones without any driver intervention. There was also the EyeLock – a palm-sized device which plugs into your computer and uses a sensor to scan your eye before granting you access. Remembering passwords is so 2013.

Awards were also handed out across the various categories, with the much-coveted ‘Best Startup’ prize going to The Airtame. The small USB plug-in device enables you to wirelessly beam your PC or laptop across multiple screens.

Video game enthusiasts also had plenty to shout about, with the award for ‘Best Emerging Technology’ going to the ‘Crystal Cove’ virtual reality headset. Its cutting edge technology promises to take gaming to the next level, thanks to improved clarity and graphics.

A total of 150,000 industry professionals attended CES 2014, of which 35,000 came from outside the United States. Those travelling to the show will no doubt have been impressed with the variety of portable products on display, ideal for making life on the road or in the air that little bit easier.

It's no secret that technology forms a key part of modern day travel. Whether you're jetting off for a well-earned break in Las Vegas or heading to New York for business, gadgets help you stay connected and entertained whilst on the move.

What You Can Win

Here at Virgin Atlantic, we realise how important technology is to our passengers, which is why we're delighted to offer you the chance to win some of the amazing products unveiled at CES 2014. We've partnered with Veho, a leading lifestyle consumer electronics company that featured in our recent CES 2014 preview blog.

Amongst the prizes is Veho's S4 Wireless Bluetooth Receiver, which wowed the techies at CES 2014. It plugs into your headphones or speakers, enabling you to wirelessly stream music from a handheld device or stereo system straight to your headphones.

Not only does it remove those awkward wires, but it also combines perfectly with another great prize; the Smartstick+ Portable Battery Smartphone Charger. Batteries on handheld devices can drain quickly, and there's nothing worse than running out of power whilst on the move without a charging point in sight. Smartstick+ solves your problem, enabling you to re-charge your device without the need for a power socket.

Here is the full list of prizes to be won in our competition, which is only open to people living in the UK:

If I could build my dream piece of technology to accompany me on my travels, it would have to be way of valuing the amount of fun (or lack of it) through recording my brain waves, counting endorphins, measuring blood temperature and all that scientific stuff! Then by liquidising this value into a drop of green gunk, I would put it on a plate and by using your everyday microwave, cook the green gunk at 650W for 76secs/800W FOR 52secs. The microwaves this will metamorth the gunk into a solid object which can take infintie forms. With these forms it can be used as souvenirs for family and friends, so they get unique organic sculptures for home!

i'm disabled and what i want more than anything is a crutch that transforms into a chair, but that's not bulky. a big ask, i know. i've tried shooting sticks etc but they're too heavy. also, i can't sit on the ground and get up again (i've had two new knees) and i'd love to be able to take something with me so that i could simply get down and up again

The Dream piece of equipment would be the dream sequencer which would allow a person to upload a vivid and personal experience into their mind which would play out like a tv show or a movie starring you. Similar to Total Recall but without all the one-liners (unless of course you'd like to experience the movie Total Recall from either the perspective of Arnie of Michael Ironside, or maybe just Sharon Stone). You'd be able to upgrade the dream machine to incorporate emotional response or even tingle / vibration for moments of action of even death. You would be concious of your own thought, yet programmed to speak out the actions of the character.

it would have to be able to run on solar  power or similar so it would not need charging so often, if at all, could convert into differtent modes of transport if needed

If I had a fancy "Gizmo" for a time saver on holiday it would be  an automatic sun-tan aplicator to save time and get an allover cover of protection.

It would have to be a Babel fish.

It is a universal translator that neatly crosses the language divide between any species. I could even begin to think of a better gadget to have when travelling.

I'd design a smartwatch that could act as your passport, drivers licence and wallet for cashless payments.  It would also be a smartphone whose GPS could be pre programmed with all your planned holiday destinations and also suggest a few when you are near them.  It would also have all your travel documents stored on it so you would not need paper tickets.

It would be your ultimate travel companion.

I am a a student that is contstanly traveling from home to university. If I could cream a dream piece of technology it would be something like a smart wristband that would hold data,  with a thin touch screen running around it. With a touch of a button it would connect to a portable screen, which would give me access to all my items, such as train/plane tickets, reports I had written, videos, web browsers etc. The screen on the band would act like a touch mouse, which you can use to connect to a screen. The band  would hopefully connect to any screen, maybe even have a projecter in. It would be so much easer having that then having to lug back and forth laptop, papers etc!

Kemmers January 2014

It would be a piece of equipment in which I could insert my dirty clothes, and it would both clean and dry all of them within a small amount of time (perhaps 20 minutes), saving lots of time, money, hassle, and missing clothes during my travels!

An upgraded version of the Google glasses with built in image recognition so I could get relevant information on the sites I visit, as well as keep connected to the internet

A gadget to shrink all my luggage down to a minute size then restore back to normal again. No more worrying about how much to take, buying presents to bring back & dragging luggage between airport & hotel.

I would build a set of voice activated video sunglasses. They would record exactly what I was looking at and I'd just need to say a keyword like "action" to start them and "cut" to stop them. They'd be able to project the recorded images onto the lens of the glasses so i could watch what i'd recorded. They would also wirelessly send images back to my Ipad or my laptop so I could share them with other peple later.

My dream tech for travel would have to be unobtrusively part of me, like a throat microphone / ear piece implant with an eye implanted visual display / projector, so that it could be for private or public use. Maybe it would have to be signalled as 'on' by eye colour or some other visual / sonic clue?

I'd like easy access to communication, internet, the world's knowledge and culture, entertainment so that travel could be made in any direction with the capacity to orientate / explore reality instantly and more fully - you'd certainly never be wondering when the next bus will be!

I wouldn't want it all without mystery, maybe I'd set a 'mystery tour' button which would book you into an unknown direction of travel based on your personality / likes and dislikes leading to delightful surprises...?

If I could build a gadget for my travels, it would have to be a pair of sensored sunglasses that protect your eye's from UV but also, video record every visual aspect of your scenary whilst wearing them, pick up on clear audio sounds of the beach, bars the animals if any. It would have a section where you plug it into the laptop and include any 'smells' or tastes, and add them to each section of the video recording. You would be literally capturing memories, instead of postcards and pictures on facebook, friends and family could see, hear , almost like they was there. It would be a reminder of the holiday and when watching on video in a new dimension 3DH 'HD and 3D' combined.

We have had amazing holidays through virgin and when we reminisce and we do often!!! We never agree which hotel had that extra special breakfast or where we enjoyed lunch! And if i could i would throw in a device that could keep score to prove how often i am right!

I would have a gadget that tracks your route exactly, records thoughts feeling, travel diary, takes pictures and captures every precious moment whilst travelling. Needs in built maps for everywhere you go (all without costly data charges!)

A universal translator would be my perfect travel gadget. I struggle learning languages or if I'm being honest, too lazy to learn languages.
