As ever, there was no shortage of amazing new products on display over the course of the four days at CES 2014. BMW arrived in Vegas armed with their new self-driving car capable of drifting around bends and slaloming through cones without any driver intervention. There was also the EyeLock – a palm-sized device which plugs into your computer and uses a sensor to scan your eye before granting you access. Remembering passwords is so 2013.

Awards were also handed out across the various categories, with the much-coveted ‘Best Startup’ prize going to The Airtame. The small USB plug-in device enables you to wirelessly beam your PC or laptop across multiple screens.

Video game enthusiasts also had plenty to shout about, with the award for ‘Best Emerging Technology’ going to the ‘Crystal Cove’ virtual reality headset. Its cutting edge technology promises to take gaming to the next level, thanks to improved clarity and graphics.

A total of 150,000 industry professionals attended CES 2014, of which 35,000 came from outside the United States. Those travelling to the show will no doubt have been impressed with the variety of portable products on display, ideal for making life on the road or in the air that little bit easier.

It's no secret that technology forms a key part of modern day travel. Whether you're jetting off for a well-earned break in Las Vegas or heading to New York for business, gadgets help you stay connected and entertained whilst on the move.

What You Can Win

Here at Virgin Atlantic, we realise how important technology is to our passengers, which is why we're delighted to offer you the chance to win some of the amazing products unveiled at CES 2014. We've partnered with Veho, a leading lifestyle consumer electronics company that featured in our recent CES 2014 preview blog.

Amongst the prizes is Veho's S4 Wireless Bluetooth Receiver, which wowed the techies at CES 2014. It plugs into your headphones or speakers, enabling you to wirelessly stream music from a handheld device or stereo system straight to your headphones.

Not only does it remove those awkward wires, but it also combines perfectly with another great prize; the Smartstick+ Portable Battery Smartphone Charger. Batteries on handheld devices can drain quickly, and there's nothing worse than running out of power whilst on the move without a charging point in sight. Smartstick+ solves your problem, enabling you to re-charge your device without the need for a power socket.

My dream bit of travel tech would be a waterproof suitcase that has easy fit attachments stored inside that can transform it into a mini train, boat, plane and car...that way If there was a delay I could push a button, transform my trust case into transport of choice and get going!

I would like to invent a way of cleaning all the dirty clothes, maybe a special suitcase that washes them all while you travel home, that would save a huge amount of time and stress

User Icon
Boultini January 2014

I would build a time machine that would allow me to travel forwards to our arrival at the hotel, find out what things my wife is shouting at me for forgetting to pack and then travel back in time to warn stupid past me to pack them. Or just something that makes me listen better in the first place.

I would build a personal leg and foot massager which folds flat so you could carry it in your hand luggage. It would stimulate your calves and pressure points during a flight and help prevent DVT, as well as aid relaxation and ease discomfort.

“If you could create your dream piece of technology to bring along with you on your travels, what would it be and what would it do?”

If I could create my own dream piece of technology it would have to be a teleportation device. Then again, if I had that then what would I need an airplane for? ;)

But, I do enjoy flying; especially the landing and taking off sections. So in that case, it would have to be a device that would allow individuals to join an artificially created dream (when you are asleep of course) that enabled you and a friend (or group of friends) to navigate this world, complete tasks. have fun, conquer the world; I don't know, anything is possible! But, you would also be able to create, upload and share different worlds as if they were 'levels' in video games.

I hope that this sounds like an interesting devicel! :P

I think it would be a gadget that would enable you to experence all your best holiday memories all over again but would  take you back there physically in order to experience them all over again - a time machine.

A device that would differentiate betwen normal tummy digestion noises and that of hungry ones. This then to be connected to the portable all in one minature microwave bacon butty maker. Everyone likes bacon Butties.

I would build something about the size of a credit card that was capable ot taking photos, storing video, books, pictures, documents such as tickets and would also have bio-metric data that would be accepted instead of a passport. It would have a long life battery but also have a high power rechargeable solar cell for easy charging. This would mean that people would need to take less luggage and both check in and passport control would be easier and faster. You would be able to insert the card into anything with a screen to view videos etc.

My travel gadget would send me to sleep for the duration of the journey!

My dream piece of technology would be a  transporter  that  took me to my dream destinations at the speed of thought.  It would navigate safely  at my will  so if I wanted to shop in London, for example, I would simply think  oxford Street and it would take me there.

User Icon
cmncomp January 2014

it would be great to take reasoable pictures, listen to music, read an ebook or two and it last more than an hour. so good luck making a battery better than the average smartphone.

Joolse January 2014

I have travelled around quite a lot and missed my children in the process - so what would be great would be a device that transmits holograms of my 2 boys and I can interact and talk to them as if they were really there... futuristic and unbelievable I know.. but would be so much nicer than just talking on the phone :)

User Icon
prook2001 January 2014

If I could build my dream piece of technology to accompany me on my travels, It would be a camera that records in true definition constantly in 360 degrees so I don't miss a thing.

Perhaps by incorporating an improved quality google map car camera into a helmet.

User Icon

I would like  a gadget that asked me what I like and dislike about a holiday resort and then gave me a possible itenery for everyday to make the most of my holiday and gave me different choices of budgets and distances that I wish to travel.

User Icon
tarajo January 2014

Gadget? No, this is much simpler but an incredible idea I think you will agree.

A freshen up wipe, no not one of the small ones, a pack with about half a dozen large ones, soap activated with water. Large enough to have a strip down wash. I would name it THE FESTIVAL FLANNEL.

User Icon
chrismillward January 2014

I would like a time machine so as well as travelling to other countries, I could go back in time and see what they were like then. Although inside my time machine I would like all my modern gadgets - smartphone, tablet, TV, DVDs and wifi!

User Icon
whitecliff62 January 2014

I would have a wife with an on/off button, how simple can that be ?
