***This competition is now closed***

If you could be seated next to a film character or celebrity on a plane journey, who would it be and why? Tell us your fantasy travel mate, and you could soon be attending an Edinburgh International Film Festival screening on us – find out more below.

The 68th edition of the Edinburgh International Film Festival kicks off next week and we're thrilled to be the Official Airline Partner for the event. As part of our involvement, we'll be flying many of the high profile industry figures and invited guests associated with this year's festival into Edinburgh, from 18–29 June 2014, on our domestic service Virgin Atlantic Little Red.

We'll also be sponsoring the EIFF Short Film programme and will present the Virgin Atlantic Little Red Award for the Best Short Film at the the festival, named in recognition of our Little Red domestic service which launched last year flying passengers from Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Manchester to London Heathrow, then onto our worldwide destinations.

"This is the first year we've worked with the EIFF and, with Virgin Atlantic's passion for providing great film and entertainment for our customers, it's a perfect fit for us as a partnership," said Lynne Isted, our Sponsorship Manager. "We're really looking forward to bringing a splash of red to Edinburgh – it's such a vibrant city and really key for Virgin Atlantic, especially since the launch of our domestic service Little Red last year."

Pure passion for film

Established in 1947, the EIFF has earned a reputation for discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema, fuelled by pure passion for movie making and an unwavering commitment to highlighting the most exciting and innovative new film talent. This year's festival features a hugely varied programme including gritty British drama We Are Monster, the revealing documentary Garnet's Gold, emotional Nordic award-winner Letter to the King, and the black-and-white, semi-biographical account of Dylan Thomas' New York years Set Fire to the Stars; the selected choice for this year's Gala Screening on 23 June.

Venues across the city will be hosting screenings, discussions, special events and live interviews with prominent actors and directors, including the home of EIFF, Filmhouse; the Festival Theatre Edinburgh who will continue to host the opening and closing night galas alongside additional events; the Cameo cinema who are the base for the Virgin Atlantic-sponsored shorts programme, and Cineworld Fountainpark, who will host around 50% of EIFF's screenings. Take a look at the Preview Reel below for a taste of what you can expect to see this year.

Win tickets to an EIFF screening

Want to experience the buzz and excitement of the film festival for yourself? To celebrate our involvement with the EIFF as Official Airline Partner and our sponsorship of the shorts programme, we're offering our readers the chance to win tickets to three of the featured films:

Snowpiercer

Adapted from a French graphic novel, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer is a highly-acclaimed post-apocalyptic action movie set in the near future after failed attempts to find a technological fix for global warming, which recently opened the Los Angeles Film Festival to much acclaim.

20:15 at Cineworld on 28th June 2014, 4 x pairs of tickets available to win.

Miss Zombie

Set in a frighteningly futuristic Japan, director Sabu's grungy horror story Miss Zombie is the tale of a doctor's family who receive the unexpected gift of a young female zombie in a crate who they keep as a domesticated pet.

20:30 at Odeon Lothian Road on 28th June 2014, 3 x pairs of tickets available.

A Most Wanted Man

Featuring the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman, Anton Corbijn's A Most Wanted Man is a gripping adaptation of John Le Carré's bestselling novel of life inside a post-9/11 German intelligence unit.

20:45 at Cineworld on 28th June, 3 x pairs of tickets available.

The Genie from Aladdin would be a great in flight buddy, not only is he hilarious but he's a cartoon character. I've never sat beside anybody who was animated before, so this would be quite the adventure.
