Planning a trip in the United States in 2014? If you’re seeking a luxurious, comfortable, and especially memorable stay, then you might want to take note of these brand new hotel openings. Stretching from Chicago to Miami, we’ve selected 10 of 2014’s most anticipated new US hotels. From the trendy Ace Hotel, which is extending its brand to Los Angeles, to the undeniably swanky Miami Edition, these new boltholes offer ample reason to book ahead.
1) The Miami Edition
In what's shaping up to be one of the swankest new entries on the Miami hotel scene, the highly anticipated Miami Edition will be touching down sometime in 2014. Marriott’s glitzy Edition Hotels have been pioneered by hospitality impresario Ian Schrager; this newest property, which joins venues in London and Istanbul, offers a number of playful on-site features in addition to expectedly plush rooms. Guests can make use of a nightclub, bowling alley – even an ice skating rink. 26 opulent residences will also be included, in case you like it so much you decide to stay put.
2) Ace Los Angeles
The original bastion of hipster cool, the Ace Hotel has grown from its founding location in Portland, Oregon to New York, Palm Springs – even overseas, as it opened its doors in London’s trendy Shoreditch neighbourhood last autumn. The Ace Los Angeles is a new destination in the hotel group’s pantheon. Located in Downtown LA, the just-opened hotel, which occupies the historic United Artists Theater, offers rooms with terraces and lofted spaces, all done up with typically slick design.
3) The citizenM Times Square, New York
A European boutique hotel group whose hallmark is cool, contemporary design that’s still accessible to the budget-conscious, citizenM will be opening its first US branch just off of Times Square early in 2014. The 230-room, 22-storey hotel will provide a breath of stylish fresh air in the neighbourhood; it will also be joined by a second Bowery branch next year.
4) The Delano Las Vegas
Las Vegas’ Strip is about to be graced by the presence of an opulent new resort. The Delano Las Vegas (which will expand from its original branch in South Beach), is predicted to open in the autumn of 2014. Within a 43-storey tower (what used to be THEhotel at Mandalay Bay), each of the 1,100 suites will offer elegant design that’s evocative of the city’s more rarefied side. Other expected features include a Bathhouse Spa and high-end public spaces.
5) Soho House Chicago
London’s Soho House has, since its 1995 founding, made the journey as far afield as Berlin, Hollywood, and Toronto. The group’s anglophilic brand of exclusivity (Soho House is a members club as well as a hotel) matches its keen eye for the on-trend. One of the year’s most hyped Chicago hotel launches, the venue, slated for a spring opening, will host 35 rooms, a pool, a Cowshed Spa, and several different eateries – London’s popular Pizza East has already been confirmed.
6) Virgin Hotel Chicago
Call us biased, but we think no list of 2014 hotel openings would be complete without the Virgin Hotel Chicago. Virgin’s first-ever hotel, the 250-room space will be opening just off Michigan Avenue in the Dearborn Bank Building this summer. Complete with two restaurants, a rooftop bar, and other top-notch offerings, we’re thrilled to debut the property in just a few short months.
7) The Four Seasons Resort Orlando
Planning that perfect family holiday but seeking a venue that appeals as much to grown-ups as to children? The Four Seasons Resort Orlando, located at Walt Disney World, is just the hotel to seek out. Slated to open in early August, the resort will offer perks for adults – like a kid-free pool, and a verdant 18-hole golf course – alongside fun bonuses for kids, including a lazy river and Explorer Island. After a full day at Epcot, consider this new hotel a luxurious haven.
8) Aloft Detroit
The iconic David Whitney Building in downtown Detroit will receive a new lease of life, thanks to Aloft. The trendy hotel brand will be moving into the renovated structure, with an August opening date predicted. One in a number of scheduled openings by the up-and-up Aloft, the 19-storey building will host 136 rooms and even apartments to rent.
9) SLS Las Vegas
Located on the North Strip, the SLS Las Vegas will be opening in autumn 2014, and what an opening it will be. The glitzy facilities are bound to attract revellers from across town – draws like a José Andrés restaurant, an outpost of Philippe Starck’s popular Katsuya, as well as a number of nightlife venues will keep them coming. They’ll be tempted to stay put too, with 1,600 lavish guest rooms and suites.
10) Metropolitan by Como, Miami
Set on the edge of Miami Beach, the Metropolitan by Como is a concept directly exported from Singapore. The brand’s first US outpost, this new Miami venue will offer a luxurious boutique setting with a wellness angle – the on-site Shambhala Urban Escape Spa is set to be a highlight, as well as a hydrotherapy pool on the roof and a seafood restaurant. With its opening mere days away now, the 74-room space, dreamt up by Italian designer Paola Navone, is set to be a stunner.
