Our Experience

Virgin Atlantic's Whisper Quiet Service

by Moderator February 2012 - last edited February 2013 by Community Manager

We've appointed our first ever ‘whispering coach’ to ensure that all passengers using our new Upper Class Dream Suite enjoy the most relaxing night’s sleep possible.

Richard Fitzgerald – one of our Service Training Instructors – has taken on the role of Virgin Atlantic’s Whispering Coach to train the crew for the launch of the new Suite in spring 2012, and will be providing invaluable training to cabin crew tending to passengers in our new Upper Class Dream Suite – which offers the largest and most comfortable beds in the sky, as well as the best night's sleep.

Shhhhhh

Richard will offer coaching on the tone, volume and sentiment cabin crew should use whilst talking to Upper Class passengers. His specialist training will also ensure that no passenger is unduly disturbed whilst sleeping and that all passengers wake up and arrive at their destination feeling rested and refreshed.

It's oh so quiet...

Trialled with several focus groups and test-flights, and formulated with input from speech experts, the appropriate level of volume has been identified and the crew are now trained to whisper at tones between twenty and thirty decibels due to its calming effect and the fact that it won’t disturb other passengers whilst lights are out.

The new training, which takes an extra day to master, has been added to the existing service training which Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class cabin crew go though. Crew learn the best ways to engage with passengers – ensuring they experience unrivalled hospitality at 35,000 ft. Cabin crew training already includes tips on how to read passengers, being tactile and how to wake people comfortably.

Our new redesigned Upper Class Dream Suite has been specially developed with the passenger’s comfort as number one priority. The ‘Whispering Coach’ is just one of the new measures employed to take Virgin’s Upper Class Suite service above and beyond that of its competitors. Newly designed seats, ambient lighting and even glassware and crockery will be overhauled to make it the most luxurious way to travel by air.

I agree. Its a nightmare. Your choice as a breeder should confine you to economy. Or heres an idea VS - a soundproof kids' part of the cabin. PLEASE? Its really bad to have to tolerate it for a 24 hour flight.

They are entitled to be on the plane. And to behave. To be respectful of the other people on the plane. To not treat it as a personal playground because their breeder parents seem to need to allow them to express themselves at full volume for the entire flight.

There needs to be a soundproof part of the cabin. Or parents and kids go economy. 9K is too much for an UC seat to put up with (badly behaved) kids. Sorry.

Agree with this comment - have no issue with well behaved kids. Comes down to parenting. If you cant do the job - they should be asked to head back to economy - well-heeled parents or not.

Nonsense. Kids need to learn respect and to behave. If they cant do it - or you cant do your job as a parent (your choice) - they should be asked to sit in economy for the remainder of the flight.
